Joan Burton (born 1 February 1949) is an Irish Labour Party politician. She is currently a TD for the Dublin West constituency and is the Labour Party Spokesperson for Finance and party Deputy Leader.

Burton is a native of the Stoneybatter area of Dublin. She was educated at St Joseph Sisters of Charity Secondary School, Stanhope Street and University College Dublin (UCD) where she graduated with a degree in Commerce. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. She has worked as a lecturer in Accountancy in the Dublin Institute of Technology and the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Mark O’Hagan, a business and accounting graduate from the Institute of Technology Tallaght, was presented with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants Merit award after achieving first place in his Advanced Financial Accounting and Audit Practice module.

Mark has excelled in his academic results, graduating from Tallaght with a First Class Honours Degree in Business and Accounting. The Dublin native is currently studying for a Masters in Accounting at UCD Smurfit School of Business and aims to train as a professional accountant when he completes this in April 2012.
